Make a Lasting Impact

My name is Rosella Vargas, and I have the privilege of serving as the Rehabilitation Team Lead aboard the Global Mercy, the largest civilian hospital ship.
I am from Costa Rica and I was trained as a physiotherapist in Mexico. I later specialized in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation in the United States and Spain. After a decade of professional growth, God placed in my heart the conviction that it was time to use all the knowledge and skills I had acquired to serve Him in a very special way: by putting my work at the service of those most in need in West Africa, reflecting His love through my service.
My journey began in Sierra Leone, where I had the opportunity to serve aboard the Global Mercy as a volunteer hand therapist for five months during 2023 and 2024. When I returned home I felt that a part of my heart had remained in Africa, so I returned to Sierra Leone to serve again as a hand therapist for two months in 2025.
When I came back home once more, the feeling was even clearer: my calling was in Africa. Despite having a successful private practice in my country I decided to leave everything behind to follow God’s call and embark on the adventure of leading the Rehabilitation Department of the Global Mercy for the next two years.
This work is completely voluntary. To be able to serve the people of Africa I receive support through donations. If you would like to partner with me during this season of service, you can do so by clicking on the Donate Now button below.
