Sokhna is a young mother whose entire life has been shadowed by a cleft lip.
 
She received a date for surgery in 2020, but before her surgical date arrived, the hospital ship was forced to cancel all operations and leave the country. In the face of a devastating delay, Sokhna remained optimistic, saying, “It must have been God’s plan that I didn’t have surgery then.”

When the Africa Mercy returned earlier this year, Sokhna’s faith was rewarded. Volunteer surgeons on board performed surgery and her cleft lip was corrected.

Despite her delayed journey to healing, Sokhna shared that she felt full of “peace and joy.”

Today, that peace is seen in her kind face, no longer burdened by her condition.
